A 24-year-old woman from Somalia was hit by a stray bullet in her clitoris while she was sitting in her living room. The bullet had pierced the ceiling of the living room before hitting the woman. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. A CT scan was performed on the woman, and it was confirmed that the bullet had lodged inside her clitoris after entering through the vulva. This is the first known case of a person being shot in the clitoris, and the bullet was successfully removed according to the Journal of Surgery Case.
Non-obstetric vulva trauma, such as this case, is extremely rare and usually caused by sports-related injuries, straddle injuries, and midline splitting injuries. Doctors at the Erdoğan Hospital in Mogadishu confirmed that the standard treatment for foreign bodies in the vulva is surgical removal. In this patient's case, the metallic foreign body was removed under local anesthesia, with special care taken not to damage the urethra and other pelvic issues.
This incident highlights the dangers of stray bullets and the potential harm they can cause. It is crucial to handle firearms safely and responsibly to prevent such accidents from happening in the future.
