A South African woman recently shared her harrowing experience, revealing the tragic aftermath of a car accident that left her paralyzed from the neck down. She believes that the accident, which occurred shortly after she posted her achievements online, is linked to her decision to share personal milestones publicly.

Reflecting on her ordeal, she expressed deep regret over sharing her successes on social media. The woman, known as @Kalogo_Mojalefa on X (formerly Twitter), took to the platform last year in 2023 to celebrate her academic award for the highest performance in her department. Proud of her accomplishment, she shared the achievement online, unaware of the tragic turn her life was about to take.

Tragically, shortly after she had completed her final exams, she was involved in a serious car accident while heading home. This life-altering collision not only left her permanently paralyzed but also prevented her from completing her studies. Unable to finish her research, she missed her chance to graduate and has since faced the profound impact of losing her independence.

The accident left her hospitalized for six months, three of which were spent in intensive care. She endured multiple high-risk surgeries during her stay and, at one point, even needed life support to survive. The severity of her condition prompted doctors to call her family in the early hours, fearing the worst and giving them the chance to say their final goodbyes. Fortunately, through resuscitation and intensive care, she was stabilized, though her life has been irrevocably changed.

Amid these challenges, she found herself facing yet another twist of fate: a second car accident two months ago. She remarked on the irony, noting that in this incident, only her side of the vehicle sustained damage, leaving her both amused and grateful.

How I became paralyzed after posting my achievements online

She wrote, “When people say don’t post your achievements on social media, I now believe them. On my way home after final exams, I was in an unexplainable car accident that left me paralyzed from the neck down.

“I couldn’t even graduate because I wasn’t done with my research. I’m still not finished because I can’t write or type on my laptop anymore. I’ve gone from being completely independent to having to rely 100% on others for everything.

“I spent six months in the hospital (three in ICU), had four high-risk operations, and was on life support. They called my family at 4 a.m. to come say goodbye, but I was successfully resuscitated. I’m in awe of how God has carried me through.”

“During one surgery, I didn’t wake up for an hour and a half, stressing everyone out. I even received a strange phone call from someone offering to pray for me before the surgery. I can’t remember who it was, but the prayer felt so unusual that I ended up opening my eyes afterward.”

“I forgot to mention that I had another accident two months ago,” she shared with humor. “We were five in the car, and only my side was hit. Somehow, I’m still here. With Jesus in the vessel, you can smile at a storm.”
