A woman, who has not yet been identified, has been arrested by officials of the Delta State Police Command for the alleged drowning of her 10-month-old baby. This shocking incident was made public by the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, who confirmed the arrest in an official statement.
The woman had initially reported the child as missing, but after further investigation, she confessed to committing the crime. In her confession, the suspect revealed that she took the drastic step of drowning her baby due to overwhelming fear of societal shame, as the father of the child had reportedly denied paternity.
The arrested woman was paraded in front of the media at the State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba, where she stood alongside another individual who was involved in a heinous crime. The other person was accused of luring an 8-year-old boy to a native doctor, where the child was allegedly killed, and his body parts were used for ritual purposes.
