Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Nyesome Wike's appointment as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) within the All Progressive Congress (APC), he has divulged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his own party, granted him the authorization to serve as a minister under the APC administration.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike[/figure]Wike, who previously served as the governor of Rivers State, vehemently denied speculations suggesting that he would switch allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Explaining the circumstances, Wike stated that upon learning about his ministerial appointment from the president, he promptly notified key figures within the PDP. He sent letters to the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagun, the South-South zonal chairman of the party, and his Rivers State chairman, and they responded by granting their approval for his role as a minister in the APC government.
As reported by GistReel, Wike is currently the sole member of the opposition party within President Bola Tinubu's cabinet.
However, during a press conference on Monday, Wike emphasized his commitment to bringing forth positive change in the Federal Capital Territory. He presented a comprehensive 10-point agenda focused on critical issues such as security, city sanitation, preserving the Abuja Master Plan, infrastructure development, restoring green spaces, eliminating shanties, plugging revenue leaks, facilitating ground rents payment, and other noteworthy initiatives.
In response to a query regarding the party flag he would display in his office, Wike emphasized that the urgency of addressing pressing issues in the FCT should take precedence over any party affiliations. He underlined his intention to hoist the Nigerian flag and work towards restoring the FCT to its envisioned state, highlighting the importance of tackling security concerns and ensuring the FCT becomes a prime destination for holidays.
