A Nigerian lady based in the UK has taken to Twitter to express her frustration about the high cost of electricity in the country. According to her tweet, she used to think that she couldn't sleep without having the lights on until she moved to the UK and received her first electricity bill. She also revealed that she used to believe that people lit candles for aesthetic reasons until she got her own apartment in the UK.
The lady further disclosed that most people tend to ration their shower time in order to conserve energy. She expressed her shock when a colleague expressed surprise at her showering twice a day, saying that some people don't shower every day due to the cost of water bills.
She wrote, "I used to think I can’t sleep without having the lights on! Until I entered UK, got my own apartment and the first Energy bill hit me! No wonder everybody lights candle at night, I thought it was for aesthetics. The day I mistakenly left my heater on and went to work!!! When I got back! It took everything in me not to cry!!!! The only one I can’t adjust to is water sha; imagine a yt colleague shocked at the fact that I shower every morning and night! Like????? Little wonder it’s stinking in the buses/on trains… they don’t shower every day cos; Is water bill a joke to you. God airpus..."
