Former President of the United States (U.S.), Donald Trump, has made history by becoming the first president to be indicted by a grand jury in Manhattan. This development marks the first time a former U.S. president has faced criminal charges in the history of the country.
The indictment came after it was discovered that an amount of $130,000 was paid to adult film star, Stormy Daniels, during the last days of the 2016 presidential campaign. Daniels had claimed that she had sexual relations with Donald Trump in 2006, a claim which he vehemently denied. According to Trump, the payment made to Stormy Daniels was actually a reimbursement of a legal expense.
A spokesperson for the DA’s office has confirmed the indictment, although the charges against Trump are still unknown. Trump is expected to appear before the court on Tuesday for his felony arraignment and tax fraud charges. The DA has also confirmed a charge of falsifying business records, which carries a potential sentence of up to four years in prison.
