A tragic incident unfolded in the Ile-Olodo Ita Merin – Alore area of Ilorin West Local Government Area, as the Kwara State Fire Service recovered the lifeless body of an 18-year-old girl named Waliyah from a domestic well. The somber event occurred around 6 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
According to reports from Daily Trust, the young lady, Waliyah, allegedly jumped into the well unexpectedly after engaging in a friendly conversation with her neighbours in the compound, leaving residents in shock and disbelief.

Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the tragic event in a statement issued on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.
The statement revealed that the fire service responded promptly to an emergency rescue operation in the Ile-olodo Ita Merin – Alore area of Ilorin.

Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, emphasized the importance of safety consciousness to the general public.
He issued a stern warning to parents and guardians, urging them to refrain from sending their children to fetch water from domestic wells.
