In a recent statement, Phillip denied ever having a romantic relationship with Ruth and accused her of being a clout chaser seeking attention on social media. He clarified that they had only met in 2021 at the Kayama NYSC orientation camp in Bayelsa State, where they had been brought together as the tallest and shortest corps members as part of the camp's fun activities. Furthermore, Phillip stated that he had not seen Ruth in over two years since the photos were taken.

Phillip's full statement reads, "In view of the above, I want to categorically state that I and Innocent Ruth met in the year 2021 at Kayama NYSC orientation camp (Bayelsa State) where we were brought together as the tallest and shortest corps members as part of activities by the NYSC to create fun in camp. We never had any relationship during and after the orientation camp. It's been two years since those photos were taken, and I haven't set my eyes on her for over two years now (sic). I hereby advise Innocent Ruth to take down the post from all her social media platforms else face legal action."

The controversy has generated considerable attention on social media, with many users taking sides in the dispute. Some have expressed support for Phillip and criticized Ruth for allegedly fabricating the relationship for attention, while others have defended Ruth and suggested that Phillip may be lying to protect his reputation. Regardless of the truth behind the matter, it is clear that the controversy has sparked a lively debate online and is likely to continue to generate interest in the days and weeks to come.
