The suspect, Akeem Owonikoko[/figure]According to Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, the arrest followed a 24-hour operation led by ACP Omosanyi Adeniyi, the Ijebu-Ode Area Commander. The suspect, Akeem Owonikoko, disclosed during interrogation that Inspector Ola had provided them with the firearms used in their criminal activities.
Owonikoko had been driving a Toyota Camry towards Ijebu-Ode from Ososa, but he abruptly turned into a close upon spotting the police presence. Odutola stated,
A search of the abandoned vehicle revealed "a black cellophane bag containing 32 expended cartridges, 78 live cartridges, and a locally fabricated shotgun." Additionally, a search warrant was executed at his residence, where law enforcement discovered a magnum pump-action rifle, double-barrel shotgun, locally fabricated double-barrel pistol, among other items. Also recovered were liquid chemicals, a black beret bearing the insignia of the Aiye Confraternity, drugs, an ATM card, power bank, cell phones, Apple wristwatches, and poisonous charms.
Ogun State's Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has instructed his team to pursue the remaining suspects. The apprehended suspect and seized exhibits will be transferred to the State CIID for profiling and forensic examination, as per Alamutu's orders.
