[p]Simon Ekpa, a Biafra agitator and Finland-based lawyer who serves as the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government, has declared a weeklong sit-at-home protest in the Southeast states. The protest is aimed at demanding the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement, Simon Ekpa announced that the sit-at-home protest will take place from July 3rd to 10th, 2023. This protest is considered a necessary step towards securing Nnamdi Kanu's release and in preparation for Biafra's referendum.
Simon Ekpa called on all market leaders, companies, and individuals in the Southeast states to comply with the sit-at-home order. He stated that the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE) and Biafra De Facto Government-In-Homeland are organizing this civil disobedience protest with the following objectives:
- Demand the immediate and unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently being held in detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).
- Prepare for Biafra's self-referendum.
- Highlight the determination of Biafrans to shape their own future.
- Demonstrate loyalty and support to the Biafra Republic Government In Exile as the legitimate government of Biafra.
- Challenge the legitimacy of those who claim to represent Nigeria within the Biafran territory.
The sit-at-home protest will be organized in the following manner: from Monday, July 3rd to Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, there will be a total lockdown in Biafraland; on Thursday, July 6th, 2023, there will be a break with all Biafran markets reopening; and from Friday, July 7th to Monday, July 10th, 2023, there will be another total lockdown in Biafraland.
Simon Ekpa's statement urged all market leaders to strictly adhere to the sit-at-home order and emphasized the importance of treating it with utmost seriousness. Furthermore, he called on all oil companies operating in the Biafran territory to suspend oil exploration during these dates in order to avoid any potential consequences arising from the anger of the Biafran people.
