The photos surfaced after a gesture from the Kaduna State Government, led by Sani Uba, which included gifting mobile phones and a sum of N100,000 to each of the newly released protesters in the state. This act sparked various reactions from the public, especially considering the nature of the release and the individuals involved.

The protesters, some of whom were minors, were granted their freedom on Tuesday after a Federal High Court in Abuja struck out treasonous charges brought against them by the Nigerian Government. This followed a request from the Attorney General of the Federation’s office to withdraw the charges, which had drawn public outrage due to the involvement of minors, causing national and international embarrassment.

However, Nigerians were left perplexed by the inconsistencies between the images of the #EndBadGovernance protesters in court and those of the same individuals receiving gifts from the government. Many found it hard to reconcile the photos of the minors before their release with the seemingly older individuals shown after their release.
