Abiola Tijani, a 30-year-old Nigerian, faced arrest and has been handed a 12-year imprisonment term for a rape incident in the UK.
The Sheffield Crown Court, on Thursday, November 9, pronounced Abiola, residing on Cherry Street, Sheffield, with a 12-year and three-month sentence. Of this duration, 8 years and 3 months are to be served behind bars, while the remaining 4 years will be on licence.
The victim was heading home in the early hours of Saturday, July 29, when Tijani followed her and made several attempts to strike up a conversation. This was revealed to the court.
The victim was then pushed against some railings by Tijani, who then raped her, according to what the court was told.
A lifelong restraining order that forbade Tijani from communicating with the victim was also granted to him.
Passing sentence the Judge said, “No sentence I pass will undo the harm you caused or be considered adequate. What you did is every woman’s worst nightmare”.
On September 8, Tijani entered a guilty plea at Sheffield Crown Court and was placed under detention.
