The Lagos State Police Command has officially launched an investigation into the tragic death of a newlywed man, Abdulmujid Oduga, who passed away while in police custody at the Ikota Police Post, located in the Ajah area of Lagos State.

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, both the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) and the complainant who reported the deceased have been taken into custody as part of ongoing efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Hundeyin further stated that an autopsy would be conducted to determine the exact cause of Oduga’s death. The police authorities have assured that once the autopsy results are obtained, all necessary legal actions will follow to ensure justice is served.

The official statement reads: “Investigations have since commenced. The Investigating Police Officer and the complainant are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba. Meanwhile, an autopsy is about being carried out to determine the cause of death, after which further necessary actions will follow.”

The police also reassured members of the public that the investigation would be thorough and impartial, promising that any individual found responsible for any wrongdoing in connection with Oduga’s death would face appropriate legal consequences.

Reports indicate that the deceased, Abdulmujid Oduga, allegedly got into a dispute with his female neighbor, which ultimately led to his arrest on Tuesday, February 11. He was subsequently detained at the Ikota Police Post, where the unfortunate incident occurred.
