A man identified as Fatai Hamzat tragically committed suicide in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. His lifeless body was discovered in his apartment, leaving the community in shock and sorrow.
The Ogun State Police Command disclosed the incident on Saturday, stating that Hamzat's body was found at around 7am on Friday morning. The circumstances leading to his death remain unclear, prompting an ongoing investigation.
According to a neighbor of the deceased, who requested anonymity, the discovery occurred shortly after he returned from church. The neighbor noticed Hamzat’s motorcycle parked in the compound but found it unusual that the deceased did not respond to calls or appear outside his apartment.
Concerned by the silence, the neighbor approached Hamzat’s residence and found that the door was locked from the inside. Despite persistent knocking, there was no response. This prompted neighbors to force open a window to check on him, where they allegedly found Hamzat’s body hanging from a rope tied to the ceiling fan.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the tragic discovery. She stated that the body has been transported to a nearby hospital morgue, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
“The deceased was found hanging in his apartment after repeated attempts to reach him proved unsuccessful. An investigation into the incident is ongoing,” Odutola explained. She further assured the public that the authorities are committed to uncovering any underlying factors behind the tragedy.
The incident has left residents of the area deeply saddened, with many expressing their condolences to the family of the deceased while hoping for clarity on the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event.
