Man recounts a surprising experience during a recent visit to his son’s university, where he was asked to take off his earrings before being allowed into the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) office. The incident quickly became a point of contention for the man, who felt that the request was unwarranted and an attempt to police his personal style.
The man, identified as @VillageParrot, shared his experience on X, detailing the events that transpired and expressing his dissatisfaction with the treatment he received. He explained that upon trying to enter the DSA office, he was stopped by one of the university officials who insisted he remove his earrings before being allowed inside.
In his post, he recounted giving the officials a piece of his mind, explaining that he felt it was unnecessary and even offensive for them to try and dictate his appearance. The man expressed that this experience was an example of how assumptions are often made about young parents or individuals who don’t fit certain stereotypes.
He shared his thoughts, writing, “I went to my son’s school the other day, and one of the university officials asked if I could take off my earrings before entering the DSA’s office.”
Expressing his frustration with the encounter, he continued, “He will never try that again with anyone till the day he’ll leave this world,” emphasizing that he had made his point clear to the official.
In response to another user’s tweet, @VillageParrot elaborated on some of the assumptions people had about him, adding, “Maybe because I’m a young parent. They never used to believe I’m a parent. They used to believe I was coming to their school for girls, using a boy in their school as cover.”
He noted that this incident was not the first time he had faced such assumptions, recalling a past situation where he had to address similar misconceptions and “caused a serious issue” for the authorities, ensuring they understood his position as a parent.
