A man shared a story of how a financial dilemma led to the end of his serious relationship, one that was on the verge of marriage, due to his decision to prioritize his mother's financial needs over those of his girlfriend. The incident took place in December 2021, when both his mother and his girlfriend needed financial assistance at the same time.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the user @afrisagacity explained that he had given his mother the full amount she requested while only sending a fraction to his girlfriend, citing the financial help he had already provided to his mother as the reason. Unfortunately, his girlfriend was upset by this, and her reaction ultimately led to the end of their relationship.
“Had a lady I almost married in 2021. In December, she needed money for a stuff. My mum needed money too. I sent my mum the full amount she needed but sent a fraction to my girl. I told her I couldn’t complete cos I sent mum money and she flared up. That ended the relationship,” he wrote in his post.
Despite the breakup, the man revealed that his mother still holds his ex-girlfriend in high regard, unaware of the real reason behind the breakup. He shared that his mother had always liked his ex and still expresses disappointment that they did not marry, without knowing the full story. "Funny thing, she’s my mum’s favorite of all my Exs that I introduced to her. Mum still angry I didn’t marry her. I just can’t tell my mum what went down," he added.
He explained that he had chosen to keep the details of the breakup from his mother to prevent altering her perception of his ex-girlfriend. "If I do, she’ll switch love to hate and praises to curses. Make e just lie low like that," he said, showing concern over his mother's potential reaction if she found out the truth.
