Ben Kingsley took to X (formerly Twitter) on December 20 to share the unexpected experience, posting a screenshot of the transaction alert and expressing disbelief that such an error could occur during these tough economic times in Nigeria. He questioned how such a mistake could happen, especially with the current struggles many people are facing.

“Someone mistakenly sent me ₦5,000,000 (Five Million naira) to my Fidelity Bank account. In this fvcking hard time? I’ve been getting calls from different persons cos of this,” he wrote, acknowledging the shock of receiving such a large sum by mistake and revealing the calls he had been receiving from various individuals regarding the funds.

Rather than keeping the money, Ben Kingsley decided to act responsibly. He contacted the police immediately to report the situation, ensuring that he wasn’t implicated in any potential fraud related to the erroneous deposit. He made it clear that his actions were in the interest of transparency and safety. 

“I will be headed to the police station to make a statement. Let the bearer of the account come and confirm he or she sent it with evidence,” he wrote, outlining his plan to follow the necessary legal procedures and ensure that no wrongdoing could be associated with him.

In a follow-up post, Ben displayed a receipt confirming that the ₦5 million had been successfully returned to the rightful sender, Sliding Towers Global Limited. He also documented his visit to the Ogui Police Station in Enugu, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and ensuring that there was a record of the return.

“Let it be on record that I’ve returned the sum of ₦5Million mistakenly sent to me by one Sliding Towers Global Limited. I’ve also made an entry at the Ogui Police Station Enugu to this effect,” he added, further underscoring his integrity in handling the situation.
