A tragic incident occurred in Aleto community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State. A young man named Owate Bode allegedly killed his mother after she refused to give him N20,000. Bode had asked his mother for money to attend a funeral in the community but was dissatisfied with the N10,000 she provided. He claimed she had withdrawn N20,000 from his account, which led to an argument.
In a fit of rage, Bode used a hoe to strike his mother on the head, causing her to fall into a pool of blood and pass away instantly. The community youths apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police. The deceased's body was taken to a nearby morgue.
During the interrogation, Bode showed no remorse for his actions and stated that he was mentally unstable. He revealed that he decided to "finish" his mother because she insulted him and withheld his money. Bode also expressed a desire to die, stating that he was tired of living.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokesperson for the state Police Command, confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody. An Instagram video capturing the aftermath of the incident has been shared.
