A Europe-based Nigerian man has been left heartbroken after discovering that his wife had been inflating their children’s school fees, secretly pocketing an additional ₦500,000 per term. This shocking revelation, shared by Chukwudi Iwuchukwu on Facebook, has ignited widespread conversations surrounding trust, financial honesty, and the boundaries of trust in marriages.
The couple’s two children, who attend a school in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, have their fees set at ₦500,000 per term (₦250,000 per child). However, the wife allegedly told her husband that the fees amounted to ₦1 million per term, and in response, he had been sending the inflated amount without question, trusting his wife to handle the payments.
The scheme began to unravel when the man learned of the truth from a friend, whose own children attended the same school. During a conversation about school fees on WhatsApp, the friend casually mentioned the actual school fees he was paying. At first, the man didn’t believe the information, convinced that his wife, whom he had been married to for eight years, could never deceive him in such a way. But upon returning to Nigeria for a Christmas break from his home in Europe, the man decided to investigate the matter further.
On Friday, he went to the school to confirm the fees, keeping his inquiry a secret from his wife. What he discovered devastated him: his wife had been scamming him for ₦500,000 every term for years. Struggling to process the betrayal, the man expressed his disbelief, saying to his friends, “Why would she do this? If she had simply asked me for ₦500,000, I would have gladly given it to her. Why go through this deceitful process? Betraying me like this? I don’t deserve this.”
The man, who appeared emotionally shattered by the discovery, shared his anguish with his friends, voicing his shock at the realization that a partner could deceive their spouse in such a way. “I was shocked too,” he said, expressing his disbelief. “So, a partner can scam their partner like this and think it doesn’t matter? This is truly unbelievable. We’re living in an extraordinary time, as a country.”
