According to his detailed account, his wife underwent a cesarean section on October 29, 2024, to deliver their baby boy. However, complications during the surgery allegedly arose when the medical team made the decision to remove fibroids without his consent. This unplanned procedure, coupled with delays in securing additional blood and medications, reportedly contributed to a series of events that led to her demise in the early hours of October 30.

Sharing his anguish, the man revealed that his wife had been the third patient scheduled for a cesarean section that day. While the first two patients spent an average of 30 minutes in the operating theater, his wife’s procedure took much longer. Initially, their newborn son was delivered safely, and the family eagerly awaited the mother’s recovery. However, complications soon emerged when hospital staff informed him that fibroids obstructing her womb had been removed, a decision he insists was made without consulting him.

The distraught husband described how he scrambled to secure additional blood for his wife as requested by the hospital staff, despite the difficulty in sourcing the specific blood type. While waiting, he received news that his wife was being rushed back into surgery due to complications, including swelling in her abdomen caused by blood accumulation. Despite further efforts to save her life, including emergency surgery and multiple transfusions, his wife went into cardiac arrest and passed away at 3:00 a.m.

Throughout his ordeal, he expressed frustration over the hospital’s lack of clear communication and transparency. He emphasized that had he been informed about the plan to remove fibroids during the cesarean section, he would have refused consent. He is now calling for legal support to sue the hospital, holding them accountable for what he describes as medical negligence that robbed him of his wife and left their children motherless.

The man’s story has sparked outrage on social media, with many users criticizing the state of healthcare services and demanding accountability. The incident has reignited debates about patient rights, informed consent, and the urgent need for reforms in Nigeria’s healthcare system. Meanwhile, the grieving husband continues to mourn his wife while seeking justice to ensure such tragedies do not befall other families.
