A man, Akintoye Waris, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for his involvement in the alleged theft and slaughter of a goat worth N200,000, which he reportedly used to celebrate his child's naming ceremony in the Odeda area of Ogun State. The suspect was apprehended in a joint operation carried out by the Odeda division's men on Thursday, alongside his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf.
The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest and provided further details of the crime. According to her statement, the two suspects had unlawfully entered a local farm on December 25, when the farm owner, identified as Mark, had taken his cattle out to graze. The suspects took advantage of Mark's absence and stole one of his goats.
Upon Mark's return, he immediately noticed the missing goat, which led to a search being launched in the surrounding community. During the investigation, some local villagers provided crucial information, revealing that they had seen the two suspects riding a motorcycle while transporting the stolen goat. The community's tip-off helped the police in their efforts to trace and apprehend the suspects.
During questioning, the suspects admitted to the crime and provided a detailed confession. They explained how they had stolen the goat, transported it, and subsequently slaughtered it on December 27, 2024. The suspects revealed that the goat was used to prepare food for the naming ceremony of Akintoye Waris’s daughter, which took place at a venue in Olodo.
The Ogun State Police Command has promised to continue its investigation and take appropriate legal action against the suspects as they face charges for their criminal activities.
