A Nigerian man, Sunday Omisakin, who was granted a pardon by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Facility for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing a TV worth ₦600,000, barely 8 days after he was pardoned for stealing chicken.
Omisakin, who was listed as number 8 on the governor’s prerogative of mercy list signed on December 26, 2024, had been pardoned for a minor offense. His pardon was seen as a chance for a fresh start, but his recent actions have raised concerns about his rehabilitation.
However, on January 3, 2025, he was arrested for allegedly burgling a residence in Osogbo, where he reportedly stole a television worth ₦600,000. The incident occurred just days after he had been released, and his arrest has raised questions about the effectiveness of the pardon. The burglary was reported to have taken place in the early hours of the morning, with the suspect allegedly breaking into the house and making off with the stolen television set. Authorities quickly apprehended Omisakin, leading to his remand in the Ilesa Correctional Facility.
The suspect was arraigned before the Osun State Magistrate Court in Osogbo, presided over by Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba, on two counts of burglary and theft. The case has garnered attention, as it highlights concerns about the actions of individuals who have been granted pardons and their subsequent behavior. Omisakin has been remanded in custody pending further court proceedings, where his fate will be determined based on the evidence presented.
