A Nigerian man has been arrested by the police after making insulting remarks about President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in a viral video.
The arrest follows a police warning that offensive statements or insults against public officials could lead to prosecution, stressing that such actions are backed by law. The man’s comments quickly spread online, causing a stir on social media and attracting significant attention.
In the viral video, the man directed harsh criticism at President Tinubu, condemning his leadership and blaming him for Nigeria's current struggles. He also expressed his discontent with Governor Sanwo-Olu and other political figures, accusing them of contributing to the country’s issues.
His statements included:
“The Inspector General of Police said if anyone insults others, such a person should be arrested. It won’t be well with Bola Tinubu. He won’t have peace of mind wherever he is.”
“Next is Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor with the black eye. It won’t be well with you, and you won’t have peace wherever you are.”
“You’re spoiling the country and not being held accountable. None of you politicians will know peace. It won’t be well for all of you who brought Nigeria to this state. You shall experience loss.”
The video gained widespread attention online, and the man made it clear that he was aware of the police's interest in him. He even claimed to have been declared wanted and said he had been receiving frequent calls from the authorities.
Despite this, the man boldly challenged the police, stating: “They said they’re looking for me and have declared me wanted on their platform. Senseless set of people.”
“People like Yahaya Bello, who are destroying the country, are free, yet you declare me wanted. Those stealing money are untouched, but you’re after me.”
However, in a follow-up video, it was revealed that the man had been arrested by the police for his statements against the President and the Governor, highlighting the consequences of publicly insulting public figures in the country.
