A 23-year-old woman shares her decision to relinquish cooking responsibilities for her family [/b]following her mother's departure due to work commitments. The story of @BigBadReni on Twitter has garnered attention, revealing her empowerment journey.
In her account, the woman explains that she concentrated on her online classes, while she set a strict ultimatum for her father and brother: either they cook for themselves or go hungry.
In her own words:
"I began challenging the traditional 'first daughter' role in 2020. My mom got an apartment closer to her workplace, leaving me at home with my dad and brother.
She called me once because my father complained about my lack of cooking, asserting that I was meant to take over her role in her absence. I've never been more perplexed. Assume her role in what way? Am I getting married or something?
I was 18, battling through online classes for my life. That's when I decided to stop cooking altogether. I wouldn't even leave my room before 2 PM. Every person for themselves. My brother even went to tell her that I hadn't cooked anything, and all that fuss. So, I intensified the pressure. I started buying coke just for myself. When my mom returned, she taught my brother how to fry plantains, and my dad began cooking too.
Now, my brother can fend for himself without relying on anyone to cook for him, and I've continued to avoid that role as well. If you can't cook, then you'll have to go hungry."
