A Nigerian lady has bravely shared her traumatic and disturbing experience on social media, recounting how a male friend, whom she trusted, attempted to rape her, and despite ongoing efforts by the police to arrest him, he assaulted her once again at a club after she confronted him about the incident. This bold act of speaking out has been met with a mixture of support and outrage, as many have expressed their sympathy and anger over the alarming situation.
In a detailed statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the young woman recounted the horrifying events that unfolded in September, when the man tried to sexually assault her. Since that time, she has been working closely with law enforcement to bring him to justice, even though it has been a long and grueling process. Her post has drawn attention to the deep-rooted issues of abuse and the challenges that survivors face when seeking justice in such cases.
In her own words, she explained, “So in September, a male friend attempted to rape me, and I’ve been working with the police to get a hold of him since then.” Despite the fact that the police were involved and efforts were made to arrest the perpetrator, she continued to encounter him at various social gatherings, including clubs. She described the unsettling experience of seeing him repeatedly in these public spaces, where he would look her in the eye and throw money in her direction, seemingly without any shame or remorse for what he had done to her.
The young lady continued by explaining how she confronted the man after seeing him again at a club. “Bear in mind that I still see this person in clubs, and when he sees me, he’d look me in the eye and throw money in my direction without any shame or remorse,” she wrote. “Last night, I saw him again, and he was looking me dead in the eye without remorse. After the party, my friends and I went to our usual late-night spot.” In that moment, overwhelmed by emotions and the trauma she had experienced, she burst into tears and decided to take action.
She added, “I felt bad about the entire situation and burst into tears. Just then, the guy walked in with his friends. In the heat of the moment, I walked up to him and told him that I hadn’t forgotten what he did and that we still had to sort it out.” The confrontation quickly escalated as her friends joined in to confront him, resulting in a heated argument between the two groups. Throughout this altercation, the man sat calmly on a chair, laughing, and not denying any of the allegations against him. His behavior indicated that he knew exactly what he had done but showed no sign of remorse.
As the situation grew more intense, things took a violent turn. “Long story short, his friend, who was also involved in the attempted rape, punched me until I passed out, and blood came from my mouth and body,” she wrote, describing the physical abuse she endured during the altercation. When she regained consciousness, she was horrified to realize that her friend had also been beaten, and her clothes had been torn. The perpetrators claimed to have political backing and smugly asserted that there was nothing she could do about it, as they believed they were untouchable due to their supposed connections. Despite this, she resolved to continue fighting for justice and to make her story known, even if the authorities were unable to take immediate action. “They might escape the police, but at least I’ll tell my story here and try my best to get justice,” she stated.
The woman shared graphic evidence of her injuries, including images and video clips, to provide a clearer picture of the brutal assault she suffered. She urged others to help amplify her story and demand accountability from the perpetrators. “These are some clips showing what was done to me. Please help me get this out there and post their pictures as well,” she said in her post, encouraging others to share her message and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
In her final words, she expressed the emotional toll the entire ordeal had taken on her, admitting that her hands were shaking as she typed her post. “Excuse my typos, my hands are literally shaking. I’m sure there are many other cases like this that have been swept under the carpet because of how he parades himself as influential,” she concluded, pointing out the unfortunate reality that many such cases of abuse may go unreported or unresolved due to the perpetrators' perceived power and influence in society.
