The TikTok user, @deborahsjourney, took to her account to share the experience, revealing how the comment from the head usher triggered her decision to leave the church. In the video, she recounted the uncomfortable moment that led to her frustration.

In her own words, she said, “If you are not careful, you will just give up. I just got to church and the head usher is saying, ‘Welcome, you have added weight.’” She went on to explain how the comment triggered her feelings of frustration and disappointment, adding, “That is why I have not been going to church for a long time because there is someone always commenting on somebody’s weight. Now, today I decided to come to church, na my weight una dey comment on. I just want to serve God in peace and forget that I am on a weight-loss journey.”

Her video quickly gained attention on social media, sparking discussions about body-shaming and the importance of fostering a welcoming and supportive environment, especially in religious spaces where people go to find peace and solace.
