A young lady identified as Fatima Saleh has raised concerns about those who advise married women to leave their abusive partners.
In a thought-provoking post, she questioned the practicality of such advice and asked where exactly these women are supposed to go after leaving their toxic marriages.
According to Fatima, many women remain trapped in abusive marriages not because they want to, but because their parents have imposed strict expectations on them from the beginning.
She pointed out that certain parents make it clear to their daughters that once they leave for their husband’s house, there is no returning, regardless of what happens in their marriage.
Fatima highlighted how these cultural and societal expectations often force women to endure unhealthy and even life-threatening relationships because they have no alternative support system.
Sharing her thoughts, she wrote:
“Those of you who always tell women in an abusive marriage to leave. To where, please? Where should they leave to? This is a serious question.
Do you know there are parents who strictly warn their daughters, saying: ‘As you’re leaving this house, you dare not return. Your husband’s home is your home from henceforth. You can only visit and go.’
I keep on seeing discussions about abusive marriages everywhere, but the question remains: How many families are ready to welcome their daughters back from a failed marriage?”
Fatima also shared a heartfelt message about her sister, who was deeply moved by the conversation. She revealed that her sister has a dream of one day building a safe house for women who have nowhere to go after escaping abusive marriages.
“My sister saw this tweet and said, if Allah wills, she’ll build a big house for women in abusive marriages who have nowhere to go because their parents told them not to return home, and she’ll provide them with everything they need.❤
May Allah give her the courage and ability to do so,” she added.
