The lady, identified on TikTok as @lovematthew_1 and fondly referred to as ‘Dustbin Girl,’ shared her unconventional journey and how it transformed her life. In an emotional video posted online, she narrated her story while standing atop a heap of dirt, proudly showcasing the source of her income.

She revealed that her journey into recycling plastic waste was inspired by a personal tragedy that occurred seven years ago. She recounted losing her only brother to poverty-related circumstances. Her family’s inability to raise a meager ₦7,000 for his medical treatment led to his untimely death, a loss that left her mother battling high blood pressure due to the trauma.

Determined to change her family’s narrative, she embraced hard physical labor, an unusual career choice for many women in her community. Despite facing societal judgment, she pushed forward with resilience and determination. Her unwavering efforts have yielded remarkable results: she successfully built a home for her mother and acquired two cars, achievements that highlight her resolve and the fruits of her labor.

Lady recounts making a fortune from recycling waste

In her video, she said: “This is my own company. This is my oil city. Where I make my own money. I want to advise Nigerian youths. There is dignity in labour. Seven years ago, I lost my only brother.”

“My mother gave birth to five children, four girls and a boy. My brother died because of poverty and his death gave my mother high blood pressure that we’re still struggling with.”

“There is dignity in labour. Work hard and do not be ashamed of what you do. Don’t let anybody make you feel bad about what you do. This is where I make my own money. This place might look dirty to you but it is where I make money.”

“My brother died because we could not afford ₦7,000. After his death, I decided to work hard like a man. There is nothing I cannot do with my hands. God has really blessed me. With this job, I have built a house for my mother and I have bought two cars as a young girl.”

Her story has since gone viral, inspiring countless individuals across social media platforms to value hard work and embrace opportunities, no matter how unconventional they may seem.
