A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to share a distressing experience after she was allegedly assaulted by an Indrive driver over a joke she made about deducting AC money from the fare, as the air conditioning was not functioning throughout the ride.
The lady detailed the incident in a lengthy post on her TikTok page, where she narrated how what started as a seemingly harmless joke escalated into a violent altercation with the driver. She expressed her shock and disappointment at the treatment she received, stating that she never expected such a reaction from the driver over something so minor.
According to her, she booked an Indrive ride and was informed by the driver that his AC was faulty. She initially considered canceling the ride since she would have preferred to ride comfortably, but after the driver complained about the fuel he had already wasted coming to pick her up, she decided to overlook the issue and proceed with the trip.
As the journey progressed, she endured the discomfort of riding with the windows down at night. When they arrived at her estate, she was about to transfer the fare when she jokingly mentioned that she should deduct some money for the non-functional AC. The driver, however, did not take the joke lightly, and the situation quickly escalated.
She recalled that the driver’s expression turned stern, and rather than laughing it off or explaining his stance, he started hurling insults at her. At first, she maintained her composure, still smiling as she asked him to provide his account number for the transfer. However, the driver refused and kept asking how much she intended to pay.
Moments later, things took a shocking turn. The driver suddenly parked the car, stepped out, and began pointing aggressively at her. She remained calm and asked him to stop the drama and simply provide his account number. But instead of complying, he reportedly slapped her twice. Stunned by the sudden violence, she instinctively reacted by defending herself. She removed her wig, dropped her bag, and retaliated by slapping him back.
In response, the driver allegedly pushed her and grabbed her wig before attempting to speed off. Panicked and enraged, she quickly ran to the estate gate and informed the security guards about the situation, urging them to lock the gate to prevent the driver from escaping. She explained that while she was talking to the guards, the driver aggressively drove towards her as if trying to run her over. He then got out of the car again and began hitting her directly in the face, further injuring her.
In her attempt to seek justice, she rushed to the nearest police station to report the incident, only to find that the driver had gotten there first and falsely accused her of assaulting him. When she arrived, a female officer was reportedly shocked to see her bruised and swollen face. After listening to her side of the story, the officer expressed anger over the situation and told her to wait for further action.
However, the driver allegedly continued to lie, claiming that she refused to pay the fare and had even damaged his car. He went as far as falsely accusing her of stabbing him with a bottle. Meanwhile, she was still crying, bleeding from her mouth, and struggling to comprehend how a simple joke could escalate into such a traumatic ordeal.
Another female officer at the station intervened on her behalf, insisting that the driver should be charged with assault. However, the officer who initially took the driver’s report dismissed the matter as a case of "two fighting," arguing that because she had also retaliated, they should either settle the matter amicably or both be locked up.
The officer pressured her to accept an apology from the driver and let the issue go. She felt helpless, especially since she did not have her phone with her to call anyone for help. Eventually, the driver was released, and she was given her wig back, but she left the station feeling humiliated and deeply hurt.
With no means of transportation, she had to walk home while still in shock, her face swelling badly from the assault. Once she got home, she began calling her friends, and as time passed, her injuries became even more visible and painful.
Feeling cheated and desperate for justice, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She publicly shared the driver’s phone number online, urging people to call him out for his actions. However, she claimed that he responded by threatening those who confronted him on her behalf.
She also called out @indriver.ng on Instagram, hoping to get a response from the ride-hailing company. At first, they ignored her complaints, but as more people started tagging them and leaving comments on their page, they were eventually forced to acknowledge the situation.
Expressing her anger and frustration, she stated that she had never been disrespectful to the driver and was even willing to pay the full fare despite the faulty AC. However, she believes the driver had bad intentions from the start and was simply looking for an excuse to lash out.
Her post has since gone viral, sparking widespread outrage across social media. Many users have flooded the comment section to express their thoughts, condemn the driver’s actions, and demand accountability from Indrive.
