A pastor from Kenya named Paul Makenzi has been taken into custody for his alleged role in a fast that resulted in the starvation and death of members of his church. According to reports, 39 bodies have been found on Makenzi’s property, and additional shallow graves are believed to still exist. Four individuals were discovered starving at Makenzi’s Good News International Church, bringing the total death toll to 43. Additionally, two children were killed by their parents under Makenzi’s influence, reportedly to "please God".
Makenzi has been arrested twice before in connection with child deaths and was previously released on bail both times. Kenyan politicians are now urging that Makenzi remain in custody, citing concerns about the spread of cults in the area.
