[p]A 20-year-old man, Philibus Ibrahim, has been arrested and confessed to strangling his pregnant girlfriend, Theresa Yakubu, to death after she refused to have an abortion. The incident occurred on March 28, 2023, in Anadariya Village, Bebeji Local Government Area, Kano State, Nigeria.

[/p][p]According to the statement by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, the suspect planned the murder with his friend, Gabriel Bila, 25. The two lured Theresa into the bush and strangled her to death.
[/p][p]Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mamman Dauda psc(+), instructed a team of detectives led by SP Tanimu Wada, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Bebeji Division, to proceed to the scene. The team arrived at the scene and moved Theresa's body to Tiga General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.
[/p][p]The preliminary investigation revealed that Theresa was a 20-year-old woman from Anadariya Village, Bebeji LGA, who was two months pregnant. Her boyfriend, Philibus Ibrahim, was arrested along with his friend, Gabriel Bila, both of whom hail from Unguwar Korau Quarters, Tudun Wada LGA.

[/p][p]During interrogation, Philibus confessed to impregnating Theresa two months prior and attempting to coerce her into having an abortion, which she refused. He then conspired with his friend, Gabriel, and took Theresa to a nearby bush where Gabriel held her hands and Philibus used her head tie to strangle her to death.
[/p][p]The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for discreet investigation. The suspects will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation.
