A Nigerian influencer has sparked conversations on social media by suggesting a new approach to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. He proposed that the NYSC should consider posting youth corps members to their state of origin and further assign their Local Government Area (LGA) as their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). This recommendation aims to strengthen connections between corps members and their communities while addressing some current concerns about the program.
The suggestion, shared in a post currently trending on X (formerly Twitter), outlined his belief that the National Youth Service Corps should implement this policy to enhance community development and security for corps members. The influencer argued that this system would allow corps members to engage more deeply with their heritage and promote a sense of responsibility within their communities.
Elaborating on his proposal, he explained that corps members would gain valuable exposure to their roots by being assigned to their local government areas (LGA) for their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA). This, he believes, would create opportunities for corps members to better understand their culture, foster closer ties with their communities, and strengthen local security networks.
In his statement, the influencer wrote: “NYSC needs to start posting everyone to their state of origin. Then PPA to your local government. Let it be an opportunity to know your village and your people. The community will protect their own since everyone is a child of the soil.”
This statement has drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media, with many sharing their thoughts and concerns about the proposal in the comment section of his post.

@Funmiscute: “There are many Local Government Areas sha. They don’t have more than 5 LEA primary schools, which are mostly dilapidated, with no accessible roads, good housing, or electricity. If this is done, politicians will be forced to sit up. Good for development too.”
@KlasickTheHost: “This is real FACTS!! We understand why they are being posted for exposure and experience’s sake, but now that they are exposing them to danger, nko?? Let the people and communities take care of their own. It’s better that way!”
@kristiano_88: “They will argue that it will defeat the essence of the NYSC in the first place, which was established to foster unity amongst the various ethnic nationalities within the Nigerian space, largely because of the civil war. But for me, it has not worked.”
@Willjose3030: “Well… Your opinion on the matter is not a bad one, though. But I feel the way it’s been done is also a good one. For some of us, going to other states and also learning their culture is not a bad thing.”
@iamlordphil: “E sure me say ‘village witches’ go happy for this one. 😂 They need to see how you’re really doing in life. But isn’t it common sense that someone should visit their hometown at least once?”
@vibewithkings: “Scrapping NYSC entirely would be a better option than limiting postings to the state of origin. Personally, I’m not a fan of the scheme. My three weeks in camp were the worst, and no amount of money could make me go through that experience again!”
