A 25-year-old Indian man, Rohitash Kumar, has narrowly escaped being cremated alive after astonishingly regaining consciousness on a funeral pyre moments before it was about to be set on fire. The shocking incident occurred in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, and has raised serious concerns about medical negligence.
Kumar, who had a history of hearing and speech difficulties, was admitted to a local hospital on Thursday following an epileptic seizure. Despite his critical condition, doctors reportedly declared him dead upon his arrival at the facility. Shockingly, no postmortem examination was carried out, which is a mandatory procedure before declaring someone officially deceased. Instead, the doctor signed off on a death certificate, and Kumar’s body was sent to the mortuary, where it was prepared for cremation in accordance with Hindu rites.
The situation took a disturbing turn when, as the funeral pyre was about to be lit, mourners noticed movement from Kumar’s body. His body began to stir, and it became clear that he was alive and breathing. This startling discovery was made just moments before the pyre was set alight. The authorities confirmed that Kumar was immediately rushed back to the hospital after being revived by the mourners. Sadly, despite the desperate efforts to save him, he passed away on Friday while undergoing treatment.
This tragic and horrifying incident has prompted swift action from local authorities. Three doctors involved in the misdiagnosis and negligence were promptly suspended from their duties. Police have also launched a full investigation into the matter, and the case has sparked public outrage. Many are calling for stricter protocols and more thorough accountability in medical practices, demanding that safeguards be put in place to prevent such devastating and avoidable errors in the future. The incident has brought attention to the need for rigorous medical standards, especially regarding life-and-death situations, and for healthcare professionals to be more vigilant in their duties.
