A Nigerian businesswoman, Anthonia Umerah, has sparked discussions online with her bold statement that she would rather remain single than date or marry a man who does not own a car and relies on trekking for mobility.
This assertion came as a reaction to a post made by a Facebook user identified as Ami Mimi, who suggested that prostitution begins when a woman considers herself too beautiful to date a struggling man.
Disagreeing with the post, Anthonia stated that only people who have never experienced the struggles of financial hardship would make such claims.
She wrote:
“Either beautiful or ugly, everyone should choose the life they want for themselves. Only someone who has never experienced real struggle would say this nonsense.
As for me, I prefer to be single rather than date or marry certain categories of men who would drag me into their struggling lifestyle. Struggle your struggle alone, bro! Don’t involve me.”
She further explained that she has learned to be vocal about her preferences in relationships, just as men are clear about their own choices when selecting a partner.
Recalling a recent encounter with a potential suitor, Anthonia shared how the man questioned her about her single status. In response, she told him it was her personal choice.
However, when she turned the question back to him, he lamented that the women he liked often rejected him because he did not own a car. He then proceeded to ask her, “I hope you’re not like other women who can’t date a man without a car?”
Anthonia revealed that instead of giving him a “pick-me” response to boost his confidence, she was upfront with him:
“I am

She continued by emphasizing her preference for men who are financially comfortable and own a car, stating:
“I don’t like men who trek. I love men who have their own cars and are financially stable.”
According to her, that response ended their conversation immediately.
She then went on to criticize the double standards in society, where men are strategic about choosing their partners but expect women to compromise on their own standards.
“A man will be very strategic when choosing a woman but expects her not to have preferences. When a woman states her choices, she is labeled a prostitute and insulted.”
Her post has since gone viral, sparking diverse reactions from netizens, with some supporting her stance while others criticized her views on relationships and financial stability.
