A hiring manager, also known as HR, shared an uplifting story about his interaction with a job applicant who appeared visibly tired and sad when he arrived for an interview. According to the HR professional, the applicant seemed exhausted and downcast, prompting him to take immediate action to ensure the applicant’s comfort before continuing with the interview process.
The HR professional took to social media to recount the experience in a post that quickly gained widespread attention on the popular platform X (formerly Twitter). In the post, the manager explained that upon the applicant's arrival, he could immediately tell that the man was not in a good state. The applicant appeared to be fatigued and distressed, which raised concern for the HR manager.
In response to the applicant’s appearance, the HR manager’s first question was, “Have you had breakfast?” The applicant responded that he had not eaten anything that morning. Feeling concerned about the applicant’s well-being, the HR manager made the decision to order food for him so that he could have a meal before the interview began. This thoughtful gesture allowed the applicant to eat, regain his energy, and hopefully alleviate some of the sadness he was experiencing.
The HR professional’s statement was as follows: “This guy just came in for an interview looking all tired and sad. My first question was, ‘Have you had breakfast?’ He said, ‘No, sir.’ I ordered food for him, so he could eat and shake off his sorrow before the interview.”
The post garnered a flood of supportive reactions from individuals who were touched by the HR manager’s kindness. Many expressed admiration for his empathetic approach to the applicant’s situation and applauded his gesture of compassion. Several commenters noted that it was an excellent example of humanity in the workplace, with some even wishing the applicant well, regardless of the outcome of the interview.
