Herbalist reportedly duped a client of N2.5 million, promising a charm for business expansion

A 55-year-old herbalist, Kabiru Amuda, has been arrested and is facing charges in Oyo state for allegedly defrauding a client of N2.5 million.

According to reports, the suspect sought the money in exchange for giving a charm to a man named Taofeek Ogungbe, who wanted his business to grow.

Amuda was charged with theft and collecting money under false pretenses by police on Tuesday before an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan. The defendant entered a not-guilty plea.

According to prosecutor Inspector Iyabo Oladoyin, who testified in court, the defendant committed the offenses at Ilora, Oyo State, sometime in June.

Oladoyin claimed that the defendant took the money from Taofeek under false pretenses, promising to prepare a traditional charm to enhance his business and personal wealth.

She informed the court that the defendant’s failure to fulfill the promised services constitutes violations of Sections 419 and 390(9) of the 2000 Oyo State Criminal Laws.

Magistrate Adebola Adeola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N3 million (three million naira) with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned until August 20.
