Four Nigerian Students [/b]have been sentenced to jail by a United Kingdom (UK) court for their involvement in a violent disorder following a gang fight that occurred in Leicester in November 2021. The students, who were identified as 21-year-old undergraduates at De Montfort University in Leicester at the time of the incident, were sentenced on Thursday, November 14, after a lengthy investigation. The gang fight, which took place in the early hours of November 4, 2021, was a violent altercation that saw the use of weapons including knives and a baseball bat.
The gang fight left a young man, who was 18 years old at the time, with several stab wounds. This attack sparked a comprehensive investigation by the UK Police, who conducted months of detailed inquiries, including an analysis of CCTV footage, phone data, and public appeals. The investigation, which eventually led to the identification and arrest of the culprits, was described by authorities as essential in maintaining the safety and security of the public.
The UK Police confirmed that following the fight, the suspects were arrested and charged with violent disorder after the investigation uncovered crucial evidence. Detective Constable Sean Downey, a police representative involved in the case, highlighted the seriousness of the situation. He stated, “This incident highlights the serious danger of violent disorder. It is extremely fortunate that further injury was not caused to the people involved or to other members of the public who witnessed the incident. This could have been a very different investigation. Following the disorder, a full investigation took place with suspects being identified at different stages through CCTV enquiries, phone work and public appeals.”
Detective Constable Downey went on to thank those who assisted with the investigation and provided valuable information. He emphasized, “Further investigative work then led to the charges being made. We will not tolerate violent disorder in our communities and will take action against those who are responsible for it.”
