A tragic incident unfolded at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife Zoological Park, where a hungry lion, aged nine, mauled the zookeeper, Olabode Olawuyi, on Monday, February 19, according to Gistreel reports.
Olabode Olawuyi, an experienced Veterinary Technologist with over a decade of service, was in charge of the Zoological garden at OAU when the distressing incident occurred.
The aftermath of the lion's attack is captured in a harrowing video, showing Olawuyi lying unconscious and bloodied on the floor.

Colleagues, visibly shocked, express their outrage in the video, vowing that the lion responsible will face consequences for the attack.
As tension escalates, one staff member pulls out a firearm and aims it at the lion. A gunshot is heard, hitting the lion, which is then seen limping before collapsing and succumbing to its injuries.
The University's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, released a statement confirming the tragic incident and extending condolences to Olawuyi's family.
