Fire engulfs LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, causing significant damage

A devastating fire outbreak occurred on Saturday at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, causing extensive damage to the facility and destroying millions of naira worth of properties.

  

Reports indicate that the fire began in the early hours of the morning, around 5 a.m., originating from the pediatric consultant’s office. The fire was reportedly caused by an electrical spark that quickly spread to nearby areas within the hospital.

  

The blaze significantly affected the hospital’s Emergency and Accident Unit, leading to the destruction of vital equipment, books, medical engines, and electronic devices. In addition, the fire caused severe damage to the roofs and ceilings in the affected area, further exacerbating the situation.

  

As a precautionary measure, 16 patients were promptly evacuated from the ward to ensure their safety. The incident, though alarming, was managed quickly, and the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Omotayo Ogunleye, confirmed the event, assuring the public that normal operations had resumed at the facility. Ogunleye remarked, “Yes, it is true. It is a minor incident. But, normal activities have resumed in the hospital.”

  

This fire outbreak has raised concerns about the safety of hospitals and healthcare facilities across the region, highlighting the need for better safety protocols and equipment maintenance to prevent future disasters. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from the incident, and the hospital continues to operate, serving the needs of patients in the area.
