An ex-convict, Adelani Oriyomi, has been apprehended while attempting to excavate a human skull at a burial ground in Ogun State, causing a stir in the community. The shocking incident came to light through a statement released by the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps, more commonly known as the So-Safe Corps, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the arrest occurred during a routine patrol by the So-Safe Corps officers. The Commander of the Corps, Soji Ganzallo, confirmed the apprehension through the office of the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.
The 54-year-old suspect, Adelani Oriyomi, was caught red-handed while engaging in suspicious activity at a parcel of land located behind a church. The officers first observed Oriyomi trying to conceal his presence at approximately 2:35 a.m. on January 21, 2025, during their patrol.
The statement detailed how the suspect appeared to have been attempting to carry out the unlawful act in secret. Once the officers briefly lost sight of him, Oriyomi resumed digging at the tomb, seemingly trying to retrieve a human skull. However, the officers returned to the scene before he could escape and successfully apprehended him.
Following his arrest, the suspect, who resides in Kere, Obada-Oko in Ewekoro Local Government Area, admitted to the crime during interrogation. His confession further shocked authorities, raising questions about his motives and the potential involvement of others.
The statement concluded with an assurance from the So-Safe Corps that thorough investigations would be conducted, and the necessary legal actions would follow.
