The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man identified as Theophilus Osazuwa, for allegedly taking the life of his four-year-old son, Testimony Osazuwa. This shocking incident has drawn widespread attention and condemnation from various quarters.
According to a detailed report by Punch online, the police revealed that Osazuwa might have committed the heinous crime under the influence of hard drugs. In an official statement issued on Wednesday night, the command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, disclosed that the tragic event took place at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the suspect’s residence, located in Ogbeson Quarters, off Benin-Agbor Road in Benin City.
Yamu further explained that upon Osazuwa’s return home, he reportedly entered a trance-like state and began to exhibit strange behavior. In the midst of this episode, he was said to have shouted “Holy Ghost fire,” grabbed his son, and violently slammed him against the wall.
Tragically, the young child was immediately rushed to the hospital by those present, but medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival, a devastating outcome that has left many in mourning and disbelief.
In the official statement, the police noted that preliminary investigations suggest Osazuwa is a habitual user of illicit substances, including drugs like ice. The influence of these substances is believed to have significantly contributed to his irrational and violent actions.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi, has since used this tragic incident to warn youths about the severe dangers associated with the consumption of hard drugs and other harmful substances.
