Two lovers have been apprehended by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command on suspicion of orchestrating their own kidnapping.
The individuals, identified as Imaobong Sampson and Beltus Ebong, were reportedly taken into custody in the early hours of today in Mbierebe Obio village, Ibesikpo Asutan, according to a statement released by the state’s police public relations officer, Odiko Macedon.
Macedon's statement revealed that the lovers had allegedly demanded a ransom from their family.
The police spokesperson further elaborated that upon receiving a report of the alleged kidnapping, members of the command’s Anti-abduction Squad diligently tracked the suspects to their hideout.
Macedon stated, “The allegations received by the command indicated that the purported abductors were demanding N4 million from Imaobong’s family.”
He continued, “Consequently, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the command launched an extensive and intelligence-driven investigation to locate the perpetrators and secure the victim.”
“The purported victim, Imaobong Sampson, and her boyfriend, Beltus Ebong, were apprehended at their hideout in Mbierebe Obio Village, Ibesikpo Asutan L.G.A.,” he added.
