A youth corps member has proudly shared how his dedicated efforts led to a noticeable improvement in his students’ performance, which ultimately earned him a heartfelt reward from his Place of Primary Assignment, PPA. In recognition of his hard work, the corps member received a generous gift, including a bag of rice, groundnut oil, and a cash gift, which his PPA presented to him as a token of appreciation for his exceptional work in the classroom.

He specifically highlighted the story of one student who, despite his initial worries about the student’s potential to pass, exceeded expectations and achieved a distinction. This success, according to the corps member, was a direct result of the extra tutoring and encouragement he provided. “Finished marking their scripts today, and they actually performed so well. There was this particular boy I was worried might fail. I would invite him to the staff room to repeat lessons for him. He got a distinction, and no student failed,” he wrote, showcasing his satisfaction with the outcome.
While the corps member expressed immense pride in the students' achievements, he also voiced his frustration over the NYSC allowance, which he felt did not reflect the level of effort he put into his teaching. “NYSC does not deserve me. 33k. Nevertheless, his dedication did not go unnoticed, as his PPA chose to reward him with a thoughtful Christmas gesture. “My PPA said, ‘Thank you for being a good teacher to our students and Merry Christmas in advance.’ ☺️” he shared, acknowledging the heartfelt nature of the gifts. The package, which included a large container of groundnut oil, rice, and cash, was a reflection of the PPA’s gratitude for his hard work and commitment to improving the students' academic performance.

During the school’s end-of-year party, students were asked to mimic their favorite teachers, and he was chosen as the teacher they most admired. Interestingly, he was not even present at the party, yet his colleagues were able to demonstrate his impact by mimicking his teaching methods on his behalf. “At the Xmas party today, students were asked to mimic their favorite teachers, and I was mimicked. Funny thing is, I wasn’t even there, so colleagues were demonstrating what they did for me. Now the school board knows who I am,” he recounted, adding that the recognition further validated his contribution to the school community.
