A businesswoman has taken to social media to share the unexpected response she received after mistakenly transferring money to the wrong account. Instead of refunding the money, the recipient insisted that it was a miracle and refused to return it.
The businesswoman, identified as Roberta Edu, recounted the experience on her Facebook page, explaining that the incident occurred when she was trying to pay for a delivery while on an important phone call. Due to distractions, she entered an incorrect digit and unintentionally sent ₦3,600 to another person’s Opay account.
According to Roberta, she quickly realized her mistake and called the woman who had received the money, politely requesting a refund. However, the recipient shockingly responded that she had been praying for financial help, and the mistakenly sent money was her divine blessing.
In her words: “I was on a call with a former client when the delivery man called to deliver something for me. There were many delivery people, and it wasn’t long before I started seeing SMS messages to pay them for the delivery. One of them didn’t let me concentrate, so I decided to pay quickly to focus on my call. Unfortunately, I missed one number, and the payment went to this lady’s Opay account.”
She continued: “I called the lady to kindly refund the ₦3,600, but she said God knows she needed the money and that it’s her miracle.”
Roberta expressed her frustration, highlighting how certain people misinterpret religious beliefs to justify taking things that do not belong to them. She wrote: “You see the miracle you guys preach and how it’s making people do crazy stuff? To claim things that aren’t theirs.”

The post quickly gained traction, with many social media users reacting to the woman’s refusal to return the money. While some found the situation amusing, others condemned the recipient’s actions, calling it dishonest and unethical.
Social Media Reactions:
@ChuksAyo commented: “People will do anything in the name of ‘miracle.’ What if it were the other way around? She wouldn’t want her own money taken as a ‘miracle.’”
@AmakaDiva wrote: “This is why I always double-check before sending money. Some people are just waiting for mistakes like this to happen.”
@ObinnaJay added: “What she did is theft, plain and simple. She should refund the money. God doesn’t work like that.”
@NaijaMama shared: “I once sent ₦10,000 to the wrong number. The person blocked me immediately after I called to explain. Some people are just heartless.”
While some users sympathized with Roberta, others advised her to report the case to Opay customer service to attempt a reversal of the transaction. The situation has sparked conversations on social media about ethical behavior and personal integrity when dealing with mistaken transactions.
