Hon Bako Ejeh, the chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, has shared a heartbreaking story of how suspected herdsmen murdered his son, Jason Ochohepo Bako, and 45 other people in cold blood. The attack occurred in Umogidi community of Entekpa Adoka district in Otukpo LGA, Benue State. The gunmen stormed the community and launched a deadly homicidal attack, leaving scores of people dead.
In a post shared on his Facebook page on Monday, April 10, the LG chairman narrated how he and his late son begged military men to stay back and protect the community after the first attack launched on Tuesday, April 4, but they refused and allegedly left.
According to Hon. Bako Ejeh, the suspected herdsmen returned the following day, March 5, and launched another attack, killing 46 people, including his son. He recounted the harrowing experience, stating that he searched for his son and found his lifeless body on the outskirt of the village. He dug his son's grave and buried him where his body was found. He also dug the graves for the other forty-six persons with the assistance of four other people. The entire village was ravaged and the people were sacked from their homes.
Hon. Bako Ejeh expressed his grief, stating that he did not wish the sight of burying his own child on anyone. He also prayed for peace and God's protection, stating that only God can console them. He concluded by praying for the souls of his son, his nephew, his nephew's father, and all those who lost their lives in the attack, that they may find peace.
