According to reports, a groom is currently on the run after seven guests died and several others were hospitalized shortly after drinking a local tea suspected to be made with a psychoactive substance at his wedding in the Sheka area of Kumbotso Local Government, Kano metropolis.
According to Sanusi Yahaya, the older brother of the bride, they suspect that the tea was prepared with different types of drugs. He also revealed that young people in the area, especially drug addicts, often hide behind ceremonies to prepare and consume tea laced with drugs. Yahaya further explained that some of the guests were aware of the drug content of the tea but still insisted on drinking it, saying that their brains could handle it.
After drinking the tea, two people died immediately, while others later died in the hospital. Some of the hospitalized guests have recovered, but some are still receiving treatment. Abdullahi Muhammad, another eyewitness, confirmed the death toll and added that some of the hospitalized guests were not invited to the wedding but came to disguise and consume their drugs.
