The young man, who was identified by his relative, had earlier asked his mother to buy an extension box for him while she was out shopping. However, she forgot to do so, which prompted him to venture out and purchase one himself. Sadly, it was this very extension box that would become the source of his tragic death.

According to the post, the man was found in his apartment with an open extension box on his chest after being electrocuted. The family, who lived in the same compound but in different buildings, heard a loud noise from his apartment and rushed out to find him in distress. The relative immediately tried to turn off the extension box and perform home remedies, but the man was weak and not breathing properly.

Despite efforts to revive him, the family rushed the young man to the hospital. Unfortunately, they encountered numerous challenges. They were told that there was no oxygen available at the hospital, and despite their best efforts to secure it, the hospital staff was either unavailable or unhelpful. The man was eventually declared dead, leaving his family devastated.

The relative shared the emotional story, recounting how the man had been in good health with no prior signs of illness, and how he had simply bought the extension box to power his fridge for the New Year festivities. The post went on to describe the heartbreaking attempt to pray and call for God’s mercy during the ordeal, with the relative expressing disbelief over the loss.

"My blood brother sent my mum to get bangers of 27k and drinks in cartons against New Year today in the morning. My mum left early, and he called her while she was at the market to buy him an extension box because his had spoilt. Mum came back and told him she forgot to buy it, and he left to get a new one himself,” the post read.

“We were inside when we heard a loud noise from his apartment. We live in the same compound but different buildings (my dad’s house; I came for the holidays). We ran out only to find an open extension box on his chest—he was electrocuted. I ran like a thief to change over and turn off the extensions. But he became weak and wasn’t breathing fine. We tried the normal home remedies and rushed him to the hospital. You know how Nigerian hospitals are, right? They said there was no oxygen, others said no doctors, and some said he was dead even without checking him. I cried and prayed. I even started recording at some point to show him proof of God’s mercy if he woke up.

We later got oxygen, but my brother was declared dead. No headache, no sickness—he just bought the extension to enable him chill his fridge. Death came and took my blood brother, just 25 years old, from us this 31st night. I am directly older than him. Does God really answer prayers? Water has finished in my eyes😭.”

This tragic loss has left the family and friends in shock, and the story has generated widespread sympathy on social media. Many people have shared their condolences and expressed their concern about the safety of electrical appliances in the home, particularly when using extension cords.
