Nigeria’s Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has reportedly traveled to Finland for a minor surgery, just two weeks after the conclusion of the AFCON tournament.
The defender sustained the injury during Nigeria’s second group game at the Africa Cup of Nations against Ivory Coast.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared details about the injury on Monday, revealing that it occurred during the crucial group stage clash with Ivory Coast.
Despite the injury, Troost-Ekong showcased remarkable resilience by participating in all AFCON games for the Super Eagles, including the final against the hosts.
Recognizing his outstanding contributions, he was awarded the Player of the Tournament, having scored three goals throughout the continental competition.
The upcoming surgery is expected to keep the 30-year-old sidelined until the latter part of the season. Troost-Ekong is anticipated to make a return to action for Greece Super League side PAOK after his recovery.
