Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has made a bold statement, asserting that Manchester City are on par with the renowned 'Invincibles' team led by Arsene Wenger.
Vieira, who was a pivotal member of the 2003/04 Arsenal squad that won the Premier League title while remaining undefeated across 38 matches, shared his perspective.
During the recently concluded season, under the guidance of manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal came close to clinching the title but were ultimately surpassed by Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, who secured their fifth Premier League trophy in six years. City's remarkable campaign saw them lose only four matches on their path to the title in the 2022/23 season, and they now have an opportunity to replicate the historic treble achievement of Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United in the 1998/99 season.
In anticipation of the Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan, Vieira expressed his belief that Guardiola's team is comparable to Arsenal's Invincibles.
In an interview with the Evening Standard, Vieira stated:
"Winning the treble and maintaining an unbeaten record for a season are both tremendously challenging feats. Many thought Manchester United's treble would never be equaled, but now City is on the verge of doing so. It would be an extraordinary accomplishment for City, just like it was for United. They deserve to be mentioned among the best," Vieira declared.
"I believe the Invincibles will also be matched someday. City is now part of the discussion [regarding the greatest English team], alongside United's 1999 treble-winning side and my Invincibles," he added.
Vieira also touched upon the emergence of several managers who have worked under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta, who previously served as Guardiola's assistant at City, later returned to take charge of Arsenal.
Under the guidance of Vincent Kompany, another former player under Guardiola's management, Burnley won the Championship and earned promotion back to the Premier League.
Xavi Hernandez, a key figure in Guardiola's midfield during their time together at Barcelona, recently clinched the La Liga
