Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has voiced his strong support for his Nigerian teammate Ademola Lookman, praising the Atalanta star for his incredible performances this season and backing him to win the prestigious CAF Men’s Player of the Year award for 2024.

The winner of the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award will be revealed at the grand CAF Awards ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on December 16, 2024, in the vibrant city of Marrakech, Morocco. This year’s award ceremony promises to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Africa’s top football talents.
During an interview with talkSPORT, Troost-Ekong expressed his admiration for Lookman’s abilities, emphasizing that the Nigerian winger’s performance this season has been nothing short of extraordinary. He referred to Lookman as “the best player in Africa right now,” showcasing his belief in the Atalanta forward’s potential to clinch the award.
“I would say he’s arguably our best player and arguably the best player in Africa,” Troost-Ekong stated. He went on to praise Lookman’s impactful displays at various competitions, highlighting his exceptional contributions during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he delivered remarkable performances for the Super Eagles.
Troost-Ekong also drew attention to Lookman’s memorable hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, a performance that has cemented his reputation as one of the most exciting talents in world football. “This season, he’s been something else, and at AFCON he was amazing,” Troost-Ekong remarked.
